Lower & Middle 5th Music Scholars' Concert

A huge thank you to all who tool part in this superb concert, and especially to Mr Payne for the hours he spent rehearsing with the performers.
This was a superb concert, showcasing the talent in the younger years; a very encouraging sign of things to come.

Thanks also to Mr Knight for posting the following review on the website within 30 minutes of the end of the concert!

We are now well versed in lunchtime recitals in which senior musicians entertain a slim audience of staff and parents, but this evening another Bersey initiative came to fruition in a Lower Fifth and Middle Fifth Music Scholars' Recital, which was held in the Ivy Coleman Recital Hall, with a 4.45pm start, after the performers had undertaken DofE or CCF afternoon activities.

The audience which swelled to 46 by the end of the programme gave full support to the youngsters who provided entertainment on a wide range of instruments - piano, cello, violin, tuba, clarinet, drum kit, and voice. Interestingly six of them were ex-Choristers, plus Jack Latteur, Stefan Fletcher, and Ana Vandepeer.

It was, in short, a fabulous experience of just forty minutes of high quality music, with pieces that would have challenged even the most practised of practitioners, never mind those making a public debut. Well done to them all, who battled with Bach, meandered through some Mozart, or hammered out some Haydn. Unknown composers emerged - Rieding's cello concerto; Capuzzi's andante; Jardani's sonatina, and Stefan Fletcher, who arranged and performed his own drum piece entitled quite fittingly, 'Calm, but not Really'.

If this were a football review, it would end with the team, in formation, and with performance ratings. In addition to those named above, also played: George Inscoe; Joshua Best-Shaw; Guy Steed; Matthew Barker; Joel Whitewood; and, Matthew Roberts. All of them deserve high marks, and should be retained for Bersey's next match in charge!
